In a completely new city? Lost your way completely? Need the address of that swanky new pub while you are on the go or the address of that new Chinese restaurant that everyone is raving about. Well, you can do away with all these little problems, with a simple solution.

The solution is aptly named Askme.com, and more aptly titled “The Baap of All Apps!”. The best part is it is just 2.40 MB, and available for free on Google Play, and soon to be available on AppStore.

While previously I would have to do a manual search, I felt the app was quicker and gave me more relevant results. It gives you results based on listings, ads, offers, classified ads too. You must’ve definitely watch the Askme ad featuring Ranbir Kapoor.

Have I used it? Yes, in the week or so I have had It, I used the app to visit 3 different restaurants in a completely new city (Nagpur). Gave me all the details such as number, address, and also an option to make an instant call. A pretty handy tool, which I found lacking in most other similar apps. A feature which I really liked was the app showing your current location, so if your GPS is on, it detects your current city so you get only relevant results.

Some of the main features of the app include being able to access the current deals on local business; a review system that helps in judgement, an option to create a personal tab of one’s most preferred hangouts (could be a pub/restaurant/shopping place etc.); complete data which includes working hours; listings of the latest classifieds of cars, real estate etc; an interface to share one’s choices on social media such as Facebook, Twitter etc.

It also is a great platform for business owners to get listed and post their deals, offers and general information online, considering a widely growing number of users now upgrading to Android.

I compared this app with another app I frequently use for food reviews, and found Askme still needs to do a bit of work on content, quality of content and quantity of listings too. The app could be a bit more interactive. I felt the transition is a bit buggy and abrupt for an app. It loads slowly on a 2G connection, which is understandable. The app is best suited for 3G and when connected to WiFi. The filter search option also needs working on, as I found little function of the same.

Overall, the app is really useful if you are in a completely new city. Even if you are not, the app is useful in letting you know the offers at your favourite hangout spots. The app is light on the eye, has an easy to use interface and requires low storage and resource usage.

On the other hand, the app is yet to target all the major Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, which hopefully should expand with time. I give the app a rating of 3.5 out of 5. Pretty handy, but with scope to improve.
